WEEK 2 : Observational Drawing

19:12

Objectives

  • Inspect garments
  • Realize why it is important to notice details on garments

Things I've learnt this week...

  • Silhouette  - What is it? - In fashion design, it is basically the overall outline or shape of the garment devoid of embellishments. I found that silhouettes are quite uncomplicated to draw.

  • Technical flats - What is it? - Technical flats are flat sketches or flat drawings. They are in black and white and are drawn as if garments are laid flat on the ground with the design details such as seams will be shown clearly . Technical flats has to be drawn with accuracy and clarity.

  • Observational drawing - Groups were instructed to pick clothed mannequin and draw silhouettes, technical flats, front and back and close up details of the garments. Our group chose a garment that were made out of denim and had interesting details to it such as belted cuffs, and frayed edges. I thought that this experience was fairly enjoyable. It has also taught me that humans depend a lot on technology. Other than that, this particular activity has taught me to inspect a garment to see what makes it interesting and if the garment is worth the price.

Here are the garments that I've drawn in class and at home. The first garment was the one that I did in class, while the rest are the clothes that I own.
