"Stir up a commotion by having a little bit of fun while still looking elegant! Red Carpet Shenanigans allows yourself to be the best-looking you when strutting the red carpet with the confidence that paisley printed brocade, the shades of blue and nude silk have given you. The finishing kick of the orange organza will steal everyone's attention, making the fans gush at your beauty while landing you as the best dressed of any top fashion magazines."
My design differ from other Red Carpet wear as I have incorporated elements of fun into my design. Fun defines the paisley blue prints that I have used, as well as a colour scheme with bright and soft colours such as different shades of blue, nude and a striking orange. What makes my designs suitable for the Red Carpet wear were shape of the garment as I have created them for the specially for the occasion and still keeping it graceful and elegant. The paisley print could be thought as a light and cheerful print as well as childish, which would not be suitable for a sophisticated event like the red carpet. That suggests why I have decided to use it in my design I want to to prove that paisley prints could also be stylish.
The fabrics that I have used are shown in the picture; silk, brocade and organza. The baby blue and nude would be applied to the silk fabric, paisley prints would be applied to the brocade fabric and lastly the striking orange would be applied to organza but would only act as an accent fabric.
The first garment that I have designed is a floor length gown. It has an A-line silhouette which accentuates the wearer's waist. This gown has flouncing details sewn on the halter neckline, which was largely inspired by Gucci's two-piece suit. The skirt of the gown has a train at the back, creating a trail of fabric when the wearer struts the red carpet. It also features an opening at the front of the skirt, exposing the legs of the wearer. The accent fabric is sewn at the hem, giving the skirt an extension of fabric. The gown is accessorized with a black faux leather belt with a gold plate at the front, a pair of gold triangular shaped earrings and gold arm cuffs. This looks is for the celebrity who wishes to show off their beautiful figure, to look sexy but elegant at the same time.
The second garment is an above knee dress with a tent silhoutte. The paisley brocade fabric is attached with baby blue silk, creating an arch of contrast. This above knee dress allows celebrities to show off their legs but is balanced with long sleeves with belted cuffs so as to keep their modesty. At the hem, the orange organza fabric is arranged and sewn in knife pleats, also creating a contrasting colour between the blue coloured fabrics and the organza. The look is completed with a belt.
The third piece is a two-piece ensemble, featuring a blouse and a box pleat skirt. The blouse has details such as pleated funnel collar and flounce sleeves which were inspired by the Gucci two-piece suit. Silk and organza were used in the blouse. The organza being an accent fabric, is used as the flounce sleeves as well as the pleated funnel collar, creating an illusion of an inner piece. The collar is a tie collar, which was also inspired by the Gucci suit. The bottom half of this outfit is an above knee box pleat skirt. There are 2 box pleats on the front of the skirt while the back is a plain A-line skirt with a hidden zipper. The brocade fabric is used for the skirt, which will give a beautiful fixed flare. This design was also inspired by the Gucci suit, but I have decided to change the knife pleats with box pleats to make it different.
The last piece is a shift dress. This dress was largely inspired by Burberry's lace trench coat in terms of the double-breast front. It has the same length as the trench coat which is of above-knee. The whole garment is made of the paisley brocade fabric lined with silk, which might be slightly restrictive of movement, hence I made it loose-fit. I thought that it was interesting if I adopted a bit of a masculine look. The collar is exaggerated as I want to emphasize the strong and tough look. It also has a lapel similar to the trench coat. I imagined this dress worn by a strong, independent women, who is capable of doing anything if she believes so.
This is the final collection put together.
